Hi.
I'm having a guitar built for me ..comprising
adirondack top,madagascar rosewood
back/sides.and have been asked what binding I
would like.I have asked for curly maple ,but stained
to a deep red blood colour.. cos I think it would look
nice......is this possible or just fanciful thinking on my
part???
Anyone ever tried it?

sure that is possible -- there are also some naturally red woods (i.e bloodwood, but i have never seen that w/ curly figure...) Personally I think brw would look fantastic.    Good luck.

Another thought is figured bubinga bindings.

I was going to suggest figured bubinga bindings. Its a great substitute for snakewood. Lots of red overtones, but with more figure and for my money more interest than bloodwood.

maple is very easy to stain because it is so light.

I would choose a solid wood that you like.
Stain or dye on a binding strip is a risky
practice. Tough to finish if installed.
And tough to install if pre-finished.
Just a thought.

Makore has a more consistent "red" overtone than bubinga.
